Research Areas:

The Hammond Research Station has served the strawberry and vegetable industries in the southeastern part of the state for over 80 years. Research on cultural practices (fertilization, irrigation, pest control, planting) and cultivar evaluations of strawberries and vegetables have been the focal point of the research at the station. While continuing to serve our traditional industries, the Hammond Research Station is beginning a new initiative in 2004 to provide research and education for the Green Service Industry. A Landscape Horticulture Research & Educational Center is being developed at the Hammond Research Station to address the needs of the landscape and green service industries. The Center will provide information on new landscape plant materials, demonstrate and evaluate landscape installation and maintenance practices, and provide an environment for hands-on experience to provide education for developers, landscape architects, contractors, maintenance, growers, retailers, and consumers.

Current projects include Production Engineering for Horticultural Crops and Production Techniques and Cultural Practices for Commercial Vegetables.

Areas of Expertise:

Precision planting and cultivation, drip irrigation installation and management, vegetable crop fertility, fertigation uniformity, agricultural/horticultural equipment, and lawn, garden, and grounds maintenance equipment including granular application equipment.
