Research Areas:

To conduct research in numerous areas of rice production and technology. The research efforts are primarily applied in nature and designed to address specific needs of Louisiana and southern U.S. rice production. The program emphasizes variety development, disease, weed and insect control, and agronomic practices. In addition, the Station has a very strong program in biotechnology research as it relates to improvements in rice genetics. The Rice Research Station also conducts research on crawfish production, as well as soybeans, grain sorghum, and wheat; all of which are important rotational crops in the rice production areas of Louisiana. The Station is a world leader in the development of herbicide resistant rice technology for use in the control of red rice; a noxious weed in rice production. The Station also has an excellent foundation seed program that serves to provide high quality seed to the Louisiana and southern U.S. rice industry.

Special Capabilities and Facilities:

The Station has excellent laboratory and greenhouse facilities for use in rice research programs and over 1,000 acres of field research area.

Research Equipment:

The Rice Research Station is well equipped with specialized field and laboratory equipment for various rice research programs. Field equipment includes specialized planters and combines for small plot research.
