Research Areas:

The mission of the Rosepine Research Station is to support the economy of West Central Louisiana by conducting original scientific research, generally applied in nature, to enhance beef and forage productivity in the region. Results of this research serve the beef cattle and forage industries of West Central LA, the state, and nation.
Current projects are as follows: LABO3124 is the evaluation of perennial grasses for permanent pasture on Western Louisiana Coastal Plains soils. LABO3235 is Georgia 5 tall fescue as a winter forage for beef cattle.

Areas of Expertise:

Currently research efforts involve a total systems approach using minimum inputs with the goal of increasing efficiency of beef production on a year-round basis using forages.

Special Capabilities and Facilities:

The station is particularly well suited to beef cattle forage work because of its good drainage and geographical location. Also the staff uniquely include an expert in beef cattle reproductive management and a forage agronomist with expertise in subtropical forages used for beef cattle.

Research Equipment:

Almaco forage plot harvester, Stults seed germinator (shared on site only), Kincaid cone plot planter, and four stair forage dryer ovens.
