Research Areas:
The Institute's mission is processing, economic and environmental research for the main minerals of the State, oil and natural gas, and for sulfur, salt and lignite. Ongoing projects are underway or planned in the above areas.
Areas of Expertise:
Focus on minerals processing research for chemical plants and petroleum refineries in the following areas:
1. Advanced control and optimization: on-line optimization,
pinch technology, model predictive control
2. Pollution prevention and waste minimization: process
modification, automation, material changes (e.g. new solvents and
chemical pathways)
3. Risk management: hazard and operable analysis (e.g. Hazop,
fault tree), process safety management, equipment and human
reliability analysis, management of change
4. Quality assurance: ISO9000, life cycle analysis for product
stewardship, management of change , sustainable development
