Research Areas:

The Louisiana Space Consortium (LaSPACE) is a group of nineteen institutions of higher education from throughout the State of Louisiana that have banded together to strengthen aerospace and education within the state. Coupled with the state’s two education boards (Louisiana Board of Regents and Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education), one partner (Lockheed-Martin Manned Space Systems) and four non-profit organizations (Louisiana Arts and Science Center, Louisiana Business and Technology Center, Louisiana Partnership for Technology and Innovation and Charles R. Moore Science Outreach Foundation), the 26 members of the consortium work to develop infrastructure and cooperative programs, promote education at all levels and increase Louisiana’s involvement in Space and Aerospace related fields. This statewide consortium is directed by LSU with the office located in Nicholson Hall. LaSPACE owns no equipment or facilities but tries to be a catalyst to bring together researchers who can profitably work together. The LaSPACE Project is a joint federal-state cooperative program with funding from NASA, the Louisiana Board of Regents and the LaSPACE institutions.

Areas of Expertise:

The main thrusts of the LaSPACE program are Research and Training; Graduate Education; Undergraduate Education and Pre-College Education, the critical areas for increasing the number of students that enter aerospace technical careers. The overall goal of the Research Enhancement program is to effectively utilize the resources available through LaSPACE as incentives for faculty and students to: develop new research projects or directions, obtain unique training and exposure, foster collaborations among the campuses as well as with NASA centers, other federal labs, the aerospace industry or multi-national groups.
