Research Areas:
The Newcomb College Center for Research on Women seeks to foster research and teaching about women's lives, experiences and perspectives through library, archival and on-line research, coursework, faculty development programs, support for research projects, public lectures and on-line exhibits and publications. Research areas include the status of women in Louisiana, the history and culture of southern women, men and masculinity, international perspectives on women's lives, women and health.

Special Capabilities and Facilities:
The Newcomb College Center for Research on Women houses the Newcomb Archives and the Nadine Vorhoff Library - the largest holding of women's studies materials in the Gulf South. The Library contains some 6,000 volumes with an emphasis on several broad topics including women's work, the higher education of women, the history of southern women, and a culinary-domestic arts collection of some 2,000 volumes. The Archives contains the records of Newcomb College, the first degree granting coordinate college for women in the country; manuscript collections of Newcomb alumnae and other women from the South involved in the political process, art and education; scrapbooks; papers of women's organizations; and several oral history collections including one of Newcomb alumnae, faculty, and administrators. The Center has a state-of-the-art computer cluster established with a grant from BORSF (formerly LEQSF). The Center is a member of the National Council for Research on Women, the only affiliate in the Gulf South, and through this affiliation has links to women's research centers through out the U.S. and worldwide.
