The mission of The Center for Advanced Computer Studies is to conduct research and instruction in computer science and engineering while strongly contributing to the infrastructure of the University, and to evolve our research and educational activities in both technical depth and breadth towards national recognition of the University as one of the top 25 research institutions in our field. Some ongoing projects include: Identifying objects in legacy systems for re-use and re-engineering; Design of a flat plate gripper for apparel; A dynamic resource allocation system; Live formation for biological neural networks on a VLSI chip; Developing an architectural framework for distributed GIS; Parallelization for finite-element computation; Recovering data flow design of software systems from source codes; Design and development of next generation geographic information systems; Fault tolerant neural networks: design theories and applications; Intelliginet information fusion and management prototype applicable to EOSDIS; Investigation into faulty and incomplete message-passing parallel compute
