Research Areas:

The Doris B. Hawthorne Center is committed to research in improving the quality of life for children who have been diagnosed as having language learning disabilities. This included research in the area of the causes, treatments of such disorders, and in the best practice arena associated with school systems. The Hawthorne scholar is also interested in such areas as closed head injuries, and ethnography studies involving the environment in which people with language and language learning disorders function.

The Doris B. Hawthorne works in close corporation with the department of Communicative Disorders so that the area expertise of each of the faculty and the research laboratory equipment of the department are available to the Center. The Center also works cooperatively with other units of the university such as College of Education, departments of Sociology and Anthropology and the departments of English and Modern Languages.
