Research Areas:
CTS' mission is to perform research in (1) Telecommunications Networks for Voice/Data/Video over Wireline, Optical and Wireless Transmission Paths, (2) Public Policy and Regulatory Constraints on Telecommunications, and (3) Uses of Telecommunications in Business and Educational Applications.
Areas of Expertise:
Faculty research expertise includes 13 electrical and computer engineering/computer science: areas of expertise--networking (4), communication systems (6), network management (1), Cryptography (1), materials (1); management (Management Information Systems) (2) political science (Telecom Policy) (1); Education Technology (Multimedia/Internet) (1).
Special Capabilities and Facilities:
Three members of CTS faculty are IEEE Fellows; they are all experts in the field of Telecommunications/Communications Systems. These faculty are: Dr. Benjamin J. Leon (D.Sc-MIT), Dr. Demetrios Kazakos (Ph.D -USC) and Dr. T.R.N. Rao (Ph.D-Michigan); 7 other CTS Faculty hold Ph.D's in electrical engineering with major emphasis in communications. CTS' BSEE Telecommunications Option represents the first of its type in the nation, i.e., a formal option associated with a nationally accredited (Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology, ABET) BSEE program. It was introduced in 1983. The M.S. Telecommunications program, instituted in 1991, is a multidisciplinary program offering both a technical track and a non-technical track.
Research Equipment:
1. Northern Telecom; (DMS-10 Telephone
Switch);
2. Hewlett Packard; (HP Network Advisor, 486 Version, HP4980A
Combination Ethernet and Token Ring, HP 4959A WAN Protocol
Analyzer with applications software for Frame Relay, X.25, S57,
